Republic of China (Taiwan) passport holders can now visit the Republic of the Fiji Islands without having to obtain a visa in advance, the ROC’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Oct. 2.
Currently 33 countries, including Britain, Ireland, Japan, New Zealand and South Korea, have granted visa waiver status to Taiwan visitors, according to MOFA.
Taiwan citizens traveling with passports good for over six months can stay in Fiji for up to four months, on condition that they present return tickets and reasons for their visit, MOFA said.
Around 2,000 visitors from Taiwan visit Fiji per year, MOFA said, adding that the visa-waiver program is expected to step up bilateral relations between Taiwan and Fiji in terms of business and tourism development.
In related news, the negotiation of visa-exemption privileges for Taiwan citizens travelling to the EU is “going smoothly,” according to Minister of Foreign Affairs Timothy Chin-tien Yang.
“The visa-free measure is expected to take effect as soon as it is approved by the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union,” he added.
Once the proposed resolution is passed, ROC citizens can freely travel in all Schengen nations, including the 22 member states of the EU, plus Bulgaria, Cyprus, Iceland, Norway, Romania and Switzerland. (THN)
